Artist Statement

I am fascinated by the potential a painting holds for implying movement, energy, and visual weight despite the fact that its material form is fixed both spatially and temporally.

Although the natural world is referenced in various ways, these paintings never depict a specific place. They are articulated in a manner that, for me, evokes the ‘conception’ of a place or space. In this way, they feel more like a manifestation of my imagination; a kind of ‘generality’ abstracted from countless visual representations of apocalyptic destruction experienced from sources like news imagery, religious imagery, and science fiction movies.

Cubes, spheres, and rings are often subjects facing annihilation in the spaces I create within these paintings. I imagine these as metaphysical forms caught in the very moment of exploding into nothingness.
